What's new
Opinity now supports OpenID and Windows Cardspace
Opinity is pleased to announce the ability to support both OpenID and Microsoft Windows Cardspace for simplified and secure user registration and login.

Use your Opinity OpenID
Opinity provides users with their own OpenID, open universal identity.

  • Single sign on: Whenever you go to OpenID supported sites such as LiveJournal or Zooomr, you can simply use your OpenID to signup or signin. You don't need to create or remember additional ID/password.
  • No-hassle registration: Site registration process becomes easier and quicker since the site owners will be able to retrieve necessary information automatically through the process.
  • Your identifier: Your Opinity OpenID is not just an ID for you to login. It is also your face on the internet, since it is your Opinity profile address.

Connect with your OpenID Profile elsewhere
If you have built an OpenID profile at an OpenID provider such as Verisign PIP or LiveJournal you can use that OpenID URL to simplify your registration and login process here at Opinity.

If you register with an OpenID URL, or add one through our Add Online Identities functionality once you login, you will be able to use that OpenID to login to your account. This not only provides additional security and convenience, but also automatically fills in whatever personal information you choose to give us. And note: you are totally in control of the information you provide to Opinity when using OpenID.

What Is OpenID?
This is a decentralized identity system, but one that doesn't entirely crumble if one company turns evil or goes out of business.

An OpenID identity is just a URL.
You can have multiple identities in the same way you can have multiple URLs — loosely speaking a URL is just a Web site address. OpenID provides a way to prove that you own a URL. And it does this without passing around your password, your email address, or anything you don't want it to.

Register and Login with Windows Cardspace
Using Windows Cardspace with either self-issued or managed cards, you will be able to quickly build your Opinity profile and continue to login to your Opinity profile with any machine that supports Windows Cardspace.

What Is Windows Cardspace?
Windows CardSpace enables users to provide their digital identities in a familiar, secure and easy way. In the physical world we use business cards, credit cards and membership cards. Online with CardSpace we use a variety of virtual cards to identify ourselves, each retrieving data from an identity provider. Don't struggle with usernames and passwords, just choose an information card!

This functionality is built into the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista, but you can enjoy the benefits of the technology today by installing IE7 (Internet Explorer 7) and .NET framework 3.0 into your existing Windows XP or 2003 machine.
